What do we do?

Recruit: MOWIT provides several annual programs which highlight, support and celebrate the strong, pioneering women in the trades today in order to encourage more women to explore opportunities in the construction industry tomorrow.

Mentoring a Girl in Construction (MAGIC) Summer Camp:

During this unique week-long summer camp led by tradeswomen, high school aged young women learn basic skills of construction and explore career opportunities in the construction industry.  The 2011 camp will be held June 27 – July 1.

Ms. Fix-It:

MOWIT offers Ms. Fix-It Workshops for girls ages 7-13. How does it work and how can I fix it? These questions and more are answered in this interactive workshop that includes several activities, which introduce girls to the idea that building and fixing are "girl jobs". The highlight of the workshop is building a stool that the girls get to take home.

Career Fairs/Community Events:

MOWIT participates in various career fairs and community events throughout the year distributing information to girls and women about career opportunities in the construction industry and highlighting the pioneering women currently working in the trades.

Career Information Sessions:

Missouri Women In Trades offers career information sessions to women interested in accessing a career in the construction trades.  At these sessions women learn about the construction industry, construction trades education and training resources and how to access a career in the trades.

Tradeswomen Calendar:

Since Missouri Women In Trades began, our Tradeswoman Calendar has been one of our most important tools for promoting and organizing tradeswomen and building awareness of our mission. We are constantly amazed by how many people recognize the name MOWIT due to our calendar’s wide visibility and circulation. Every year so far we’ve sold over 1,000 calendars and we expect our 3rd edition of the calendar to sell even better as our organization grows and our mission gains momentum. Each of the tradeswomen featured in the calendar have become “famous” and selling and distributing the calendar gives them an opportunity to shine on their jobsites, at their union meetings and in their communities.  Throughout the year we distribute our Tradeswoman Calendars at local career fairs showcasing positive images of women working in the construction trades to young women thinking about their futures.

Retain: MOWIT is a supportive community where tradeswomen can network, share stories and encourage fellow sisters in the trades. Learn, network, mentor!

Tradeswoman Network:

Empower yourself on the second Thursday of every month from 4-6 PM at the MOWIT office. Let’s unite to create a voice for tradeswomen.

Advocate: MOWIT represents the voice of tradeswomen on several community and industry boards and committees.  We work in our community and in the construction industry to create more opportunities for women to work in the trades.
